College Workshop Series: Implementation and Compliance of Smoke and Tobacco-Free College Policy

Throughout February 2021, the California Youth Advocacy Network (CYAN) will be hosting a virtual workshop series to support smoke/tobacco-free interventions on college and university campuses. Each of the three days of the Smoke/Tobacco-Free College and University Workshop Series will feature a different aspect of smoke/tobacco-free college work and include a general session and two sets of breakout sessions. FEBRUARY 26, 2021
9:00AM – 12:00PM

Implementation and Compliance of Smoke and Tobacco-Free College Policy will focus on implementing new smoke and tobacco-free policies on campuses as well as strengthening compliance of existing policies. This session will include breakouts on preparing colleges for re-opening as smoke/tobacco-free policies as well as using this time to create a plan for improving compliance when students return to campus.

REGISTRATION

This event is free of charge. Individuals interested in attending can register for one, two, or all three workshops within this series. The event is designed for individuals, organizations, student advocates, and college and university representatives working on smoke/tobacco-free campus interventions.

Advocating for Smoke and Tobacco-Free College Policy will focus on advocating for new smoke and tobacco-free policy adopting on community college, private college, and trade and tech campuses, with conversations on continuing advocacy efforts during the pandemic to encourage policy adoption before the reopening of on-campus learning.

Supporting Students and Campus Communities in Quitting Tobacco and Nicotine will focus on supporting students, staff, and faculty in quitting nicotine and tobacco through new and innovative tobacco treatments strategies, including providing tobacco treatment support during the pandemic and distance learning.

* Health Services Association - California Community Colleges (HSACCC) is providing 3 CEUs for RNs attending this session.

College Tobacco Treatment Training

CYAN and California Smokers' Helpline are facilitating a College Tobacco Treatment Training at Shriners Hospital (Northern California) on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 9:00am-3:30pm. This training will provide an overview of young adult tobacco use and current products that are being used, highlight basic tobacco cessation topics, and cover pharmacology for tobacco cessation. 

The training is free of cost and open to college staff, students, and tobacco control partners working with young adults on tobacco prevention and treatment. Lunch and a light breakfast will be provided to all participants. Please register here

This training will provide an overview of young adult tobacco use and current products that are being used, highlight basic tobacco cessation topics, and cover pharmacology for tobacco cessation.

The training is free of cost and open to college staff, students, and tobacco control partners working with young adults on tobacco prevention and treatment. Lunch and a light breakfast will be provided to all participants. Registration is open through Friday, November 1. Please register here.
